Victorian artist, craftsman, poet and free thinker William Morris lived here from 1848 to 1856, and the house has been devoted to his life and work. Displays include fabrics, stained glass, wall paper and furniture, as well as Pre-Raphaelite paintings.

Scott’s Grotto, built in the 1760s by the Quaker poet John Scott, has been described by English Heritage as ‘One of the finest in England’. Recently restored by the Ware Society, it consists of underground passages and chambers decorated with flints, shel etc.
